The pelvic floor and Filo

The pelvic floor and Filo

Filo is currently busy developing tools that can be used for both sexual pleasure and support for pelvic floor treatment, for men and women.

But what exactly is a pelvic floor? Every person has a pelvic floor, but not everyone is equally aware of this, until something is not going well with regard to the pelvic floor. Problems in the pelvis can make having sex more difficult and less pleasant. About 27% of women in the Netherlands suffer from this. Especially women under the age of 25 and between the ages of 55 and 69, but men can also suffer from pelvic complaints. Consider, for example, erection problems, which occur in 52% of men between the ages of 40 and 70.

Your pelvic floor consists of two muscle layers that work together. In sexuality, the pelvic floor muscles play an important role in obtaining and maintaining an erection (men and women), in the production of fluid and also in allowing the penis to enter, for example.

A pelvic floor that cannot relax at the right time contributes to reduced blood flow, a decrease in fluid and a narrowing of the entrance. This can make penetration painful or difficult. This tension is often still unconsciously present. You often see that the pelvic floor will tighten preventively next time. Your body, specifically the pelvic floor, will do anything to avoid pain.

Leakage of urine is also a common complaint. If you suddenly lose some urine without feeling the urge: during exertion such as coughing, sneezing, laughing, bending over, lifting, climbing stairs, running or jumping, you can train your pelvic floor by means of exercises for the sphincter of the bladder. When you do these pelvic floor exercises daily for a longer period (6 to 8 weeks), you gradually regain control over your bladder. You then lose urine less quickly when pressure rises in the abdomen.

If you have complaints in which the pelvic floor plays a role, a registered pelvic physiotherapist (often confused with pelvic floor physiotherapist) can help you. They are also trained to carry out an internal examination if necessary. During the treatment, various methods will be used to control your pelvic floor. Parts of this are pelvic floor exercises and breathing and relaxation exercises, but Filo's tools can also help. These tools are specially designed to also pay attention to positive stimuli in your pelvic floor, to be able to practice better together and to actually experience sexual pleasure. The tools are designed in such a way that they can be used, for example, for trigger point treatment, hooking onto the pelvic floor muscles, can be used, for example, for scar treatment after a caesarean section or childbirth, or for practicing inserting something into the vagina, such as with vaginismus. In addition, the tools can be used sustainably. If the treatment of pelvic floor problems is successful, the tool does not have to disappear into the closet, but can simply continue to be used, because the main functions of Filo's tools are to promote sexual pleasure.

Using a tool as part of the pelvic physiotherapy treatment can help to normalize contact with your own body. It gives a positive experience and ensures that you, as a patient, can maintain your own control. You can use the tools together with a partner, which in turn has a positive effect on the sexual interaction between partners. In addition, the tools provide pain relief and relaxation, but especially sexual pleasure.
